Steven Carn was the Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer, and a member of the Board of Directors of Advanced Disposal Services (“ADS”). Steven joined ADS in April 2001 and served as Chief Accounting Officer until August 2006 when he was promoted to Chief Financial Officer.
Under his leadership, ADS executed on an extensive M&A and integration roll up strategy Steven’s 20 years of experience in the solid waste industry has provided him with:
- The ability to quickly build out a senior management and field operations management teams
- Testimonials from former sellers acquired by ADS
- Key relationships in target markets to assist with M&A and sales penetration
- Experience building back office and systems integration
- Strategic knowledge and a network in Advanced Disposal’s footprint east of the Mississippi River
- Grew vertically integrated solid waste business from start up to $380 million revenue with EBITDA of $110 million operating in 7 states in the eastern US from 2000 to 2012
- M&A experience with over 100 acquisition and development projects with over $540 million of spend from inception to 2012
- Transformational acquisition November 2012 of Veolia Solid Waste with $800 million revenue and $245 million EBITDA for $1.9 billion
- Key player in taking the company public in an IPO October 2016 with the proceeds used to delever the company and to monetize the investment for the private equity owner; the company was acquired by Waste Management in October 2020

- Oversight of multi year personnel development programs and continuity planning
- Development of cost effective and sustainable capital, safety, operational, and maintenance processes, practices, and protocols for dependable FCF.
- Integration of acquired assets and harmonization of best ops practices.
- Optimize balance for utilization of internal resources and Cap X spend versus outsourcing.
- Enhancement of disposal, logistics, and site operating performance with validated technologies.
- Designated Person of Knowledge with extensive ops sell side coordination and responsibility for both WM’s $4.6B and GFL’s $835.0M acquisition of ADS’s securities and assets
- Lead environmental underwriting diligence processes for Advanced’s $398.5M IPO
- Completion of direct diligence, landfill valuation, integration, and synergy development related to the acquisition of Veolia ES Solid Waste, Inc. for $1.9B.
- Operational integration of private equity partner’s holdings in sister company IWS and subsequent pitch lead for divestiture of NY / NJ assets
- Developed all municipal operational proforma models and landfill pricing templates to include overarching guidance and pricing protocols; established the basis for the Compliance and Business Impact Charge (CBIC); developed centralized disposal pricing for profit modeling
- Strategic planning and implementation included lead in market and personnel realignments, pricing, heavy equipment finance and maintenance programs, LFGTE projects, leachate and problematic waste management, disposal and transportation lane optimization
- Demonstrated operational performance by meeting landfill cash flow objectives in successive years and direct management of a $125M+ annual post collection capital and C/PC budget
- Operational and capital management responsibilities for public companies to include Director of Operations, Area Operations Manager, and Assistant Region Vice President with annual revenue of $900.0M+
